Piranha 3DD (2012), Hero Giant Silicon Piranha w. Bite Mechanism
original movie prop
This is a giant silicone piranha with mechanical jaw from the 2012 horror-comedy sequel, Piranha 3DD. The enormous fish puppet was scanned for use in the creation of the CGI fish ultimately seen in the film and was intended for possible use on camera itself.
Crafted from silicone, this item features a highly detailed, scale painted exterior; with a gradating blue, green and yellow color scheme, as well as red accents around the gills and fins. This item also features a pair of acrylic green and black eyes, numerous pointy spines attached at top, and an open mouth filled with pointed silicone teeth.
Additionally, a metal rod runs through the fish's center; extending just over 12" (31cm) out the bottom side. This rod would have been used during filming by a puppeteer to control the fish's movement on screen. Connected to the rod is a single cable control lever, which when manipulated, moves the bottom jaw of the giant piranha, giving it an added level of realism.
The gigantic fish comes mounted on a custom wooden base from the production and measures approximately 45" x 36" (107cm x 56cm) overall. The piranha features some production-distressing: small cuts, a bite mark on the back fin, etc., and light wear from production use (see photos) but overall remains in very good condition.
