This was originally one of Shanko's V3 kits but I took scans of the original hero phaser in Greg Jein's collection and made my own set of plans. I cut both p1 shells in half lengthwise and corrected the angles and width. I added styrene strips along the edges of the shell to build up height and length. I also used bondo over a styrene skeleton for a new emitter hump. I slathered bondo and styrene on the top front to build up the height and thickness as well. The emitter window was built using some thin strips of styrene. I then painted the shells with Zynolyte Dark Grey and cleared it with Kyrlon Satin. Once I had all the custom cut acrylic pieces, the brass thumb wheel and the the rest of the metal required, I set about making the internal mechanisms, closely following every bit of wonkiness found on the original prop.
