Forbidden Planet is probably my favorite sci-fi movie. The "simple blasters" (to quote Robby) were great prop designs for their time (and still are). I scratch-built this blaster rifle inspired by the Forbidden Planet blasterrifles. Mine is somewhat simpler than the original props (fewer vents along the front of the barrel and simpler grips). Unlike the original all metal props, my interpretation of the design is constructed of polycarbonate pipe and, sheet styrene (grips). The barrel holds a battery pack, an internal lighting system for the vents and a blue LED for the beam emitter.
