Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is a strong chelating agent that binds and sequesters many metals, including the iron atoms at the core of blood's active ingredient, hemoglobin. To say that vampires have a particularly violent reaction to this chemical is putting it mildly. Blade uses a bandolier of throwing darts such as this one, each bearing a capsule of injectable EDTA, to defeat Deacon Frost after Frost's transformation into the powerful blood god La Magra.
