This communicator was built from a kit molded off of the original screenused communicator. Exacting attention to detail was paid to replicate the set accurate appearance. The darker red Siam jewel and the midplate between the hinge wheels recreates its second season appearance. Every solder blob was matched and custom colored glues were mixed. The moiré ring is exactly 1/32nd of an inch off center. The control hubs and jewels are all appropriately askew. The correct vintage 30 second stopwatch was sourced. Since the kit shells were molded off of the Alpha in its current state, the sag in the back shell is unrepresentative of the way it appeared during the run of the show. To remedy this, I filled in the the divot under where the velcro would lay with bondo and sanded it smooth. A custom midplate was also made for this build to more accurately reproduce the amount visible along the outside edges. Even the little accidental cut in the midplate next to the left hinge wheel was replicated.
